Push vs. Pull
Advice from a Buddha Master of Welding

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=w4RrDeUKcH4&feature=related

Great for many reasons, this video is best for the
tasty insight we get from an old time ACE welder.
He brings up push v pull and its attendant online
discussion then lets his weld do the talking...

Here are the tools Ive reviewed so far:

MIG welder
Chop Saw
Band Saw
Plasma Cutter
Angle Grinder
Drill Press

Disc Sander
Bench Grinder

Metal Scribe
12" combo Square
Adjustable vise grip clamp

Im going to start writing up the key points of
information we have addressed with each tool.
Those write-ups will be posted here along with
links to additional useful material.

***Your first goal is to be able to make functional welds in steel.
Then by fine tuning your wire speed (ipm) and your Voltage (heat)
you can start producing cleaner welding beads. At the same time
maintain that mental checklist we discussed - if I see a porous weld
then check my gas is actually on. Am I doing a pattern when
laying down the bead (circle or stitch) which forces us to slow down
therefore gaining a wider bead.

And here is a marvelous source of information

Yes its valuable to read about the other disciplines
(TIG, Stick/Arc welding) because it will deepen and
widen your understanding of what it means
to be effective in the Metal Shop at Third Ward.

AMAZING!!

Triple wow is what I say. Super looking forward to putting up some images of my past students work and cranking up the dialogue about teaching art and furniture. Its amazing for me to come back to this blog and read older posts. Instantly gives me additional perspective on my growth as a teacher. Seeing these old posts makes me realize that my love for teaching has only intensified over these last 2 1/2 years. Im inspired. Going to write some emails to my old teachers thanking them for what they did for me whether thats Timothy Stapleton at Loyola College doing an office seminar on Albert Camus, reading Political Theory with the truly amazing/epic Dr Franz; the attention Brother Drisoll afforded me when I was a lost at sea Chaminade High School student; Mr McCann's refusal to accept the incorrect deployment of the word slovenly from a Junior high student; John Reardon's endless giving in his intellectual sharing while I studied for the MFA in Sculpture at Goldsmiths. At the same time Ill try and disremember my truly uninspiring and enervating time spent under the yokes of Carrie Teitcher and Joseph Crea whilst studying at Brooklyn Law School. Actually Ill just use my experiences with them as clear indicators of what not to do with my students.
